The Serene Majesty of Calm Assurance – The King of Cups

Up until today the only time I had drawn a card from the Suit of Cups was in my interview with the Shadowscapes Tarot. To me this seemed quite odd, being such an emotional person I was expecting more to come up. Not only expecting, I was also hoping for more. But I guess if I think about what has been happening in my life it makes sense that so many Swords have shown their faces and few Cups have appeared at all. Anyway, enough mind babble, here is the card I drew this morning…

Before I get into the card I first want to say that these daily draws are first and foremost learning opportunities for me. With some cards like the Seven of Wands and the Three of Swords a post comes easily, but with others it seems a lot harder. This is one of those times. So I’m really just going to jot down my thoughts and strive for some meaning here.

The first thing that came to me when I saw this card was how serenely majestic this King looks as he floats there gazing into the Seahorse’s eyes, as if looking directly into his soul. It is like he has become one with the ocean and all of its inhabitants. I just want to jump into the card and let the King’s calming energies cleanse my entire being!

The Chariot awaits…

Today I decided to do something a little different. Usually when I’m shuffling for my daily card I ask ‘What do you have to teach me today tarot?’ ‘What message do I need to hear?’ However I awoke today feeling in need of some guidance in relation to the thoughts and feelings my last two daily draws had spurred. So while shuffling I asked “What will help me move forward and stop me from falling into the morose energy I often find myself in?” “What can I work on to be happier in myself?” And what came up you ask, why none other than card number seven, The Chariot. I giggled a bit when I saw this card, ‘the triumph of will in difficult circumstances’. Definitely a useful card to contemplate today!

The Chariot is about triumph, using your will, asserting yourself, and mastering your emotions. All things that would be helpful for me in my current situation. When I find myself stuck in a sad energy I just need to say to myself ‘No, Adam, use the power of your will, focus your intent, move on from this. Be like The Chariot‘.

A Thorn in the Mind – The Eight of Swords

It seems that the tarot is definitely trying to send me a message this week with three swords cards in a row. Yesterday I drew the Three of Swords and today what card decided to show its face, why the Eight of Swords of course. So my swan-soul has gone from being stabbed through the heart, abandoned and lonely, then found its way free to simply become caught in the ‘bramble crone’s’ grip, a precarious situation indeed…

Restriction, Confusion, Powerlessness. These are all the feelings represented by the Eight of Swords. It upsets me to see this card today. I thought I had come to a small revelation yesterday with the Three, but if I follow the thread of thought that these daily cards are messages for me then maybe there is more for me to learn.

A Graceless Betrayal – The Three of Swords.

Really tarot? Heartbreak. Loneliness. Abandonment. Betrayal. This is not what I wanted to see today. I feel like I have no more energy to contemplate such things after the last 6 months. But the Three of Swords must be coming to me for a reason, so time to tackle this I guess.

A Veil of Ravens – The King of Swords

Last night, I went to the cinema and saw a beautiful movie based on Tim Conigrave’s memoir entitled ‘Holding the Man’. Being the emotional empath I am I knew it was going to eventuate in me in the cinema blubbering away while trying to hold as much composure as I could. To give you a little background, in 2012 I was in my last year of Drama School and was lucky enough to do a reading of ‘Holding the Man’ for the State Theatre Company of South Australia. I was given the role of Timothy. As soon as I read the play I felt a deep connection to the subject matter, so I knew how much of an impact seeing the movie was going to have. This morning when I woke up I felt quite emotionally drained, both from the movie and the fact that I got a little stuck in thoughts after it about what had been happening in my life over the last five months. This nearly stopped me from picking up my cards for my daily draw, but I held fast and picked up my deck (secretly hoping for a nice calming card such as The Star or something of the sort) and drew.  And what did I receive, why the King of Swords of course 😛

A Vixen’s Defiance – the Seven of Wands

Today’s  Card of the Day, the Seven of Wands, is all about aggression and defiance, standing your ground and asserting yourself. I absolutely adore Stephanie Pui-Mun Law’s interpretation of this card in the Shadowscapes Tarot, which shows a vixen and badger in a head on clash.

There are times in life when we need to stand up for what we believe in, these can be simple views, or they can be very dear to us, which is what I believe we see in the card above. The Vixen is not just fighting for herself, but in order to protect her kits. Her love for them burns in her heart, and the fear for their safety makes her fight with all her strength. Badgers can be very vicious animals, tough adversaries indeed. But when we have conviction and a strong character we can withstand any obstacle.

First ever Card of the Day…Page of Pentacles

Now for those of you new to tarot, you may not know what a ‘Card of the Day’ is. Put simply it is a widely used exercise in the tarot community, where you draw a card each day, and contemplate how it’s energy may be playing out as the day progresses. To expand upon this you can also take the card as being representative of something that may happen during the day, or how I think I will proceed with this excercise, as possible messages of things to work on/towards.

I’ve put this practice off for quite some time for various reasons, but it is a big part of The Alternative Tarot Course so I wouldn’t be doing the course justice if I didn’t partake in this ritual. Let alone the fact that it is a really good way of learning the cards 😃. So this morning before getting ready for work I took out my deck, shuffled my cards and drew my first Card of the Day…the Page of Pentacles.
